Case Study

Begin at the beginning

Before Connecting Penzance I was shut in doors 24/7 from finishing college until now. I finished college 7 years ago and had a poor diet of unhealthy choices I tended to eat snack food rather than meals. I also had a poor sleeping pattern I would be awake all night and sleep during the day. I didn’t put myself into any position to challenge myself or become frustrated.

How we helped

I was referred by my GP to the Social Prescriber. I meet with AC at the YMCA and then meet with the Connecting Penzance Team my first morning with the group we visited the PEAT project. It was an interesting morning there, I meet with Lynn after the CPZ team made it common knowledge that I was good at using computers. She suggested that I come back and visit her a few days later and have a chat which I did, I walked to the Peat Project from my house and chatted with her regarding the Audit Trails that they use, as well as developing administration tools for them to use. I now go there twice a week to work on these projects and have signed up for time credits so far I have earned 15 time credits. I don’t plan to use them myself but to pass to my brother who has a young family and can used them to do activity around the town. As well as the Peat Project I regularly attend the YMCA sessions for CPZ I enjoy attending as there is always something different each week and it gets me out of the house.

How things have changed

Since my meeting with AC I have completely changed my eating habits and I am now monitoring my diet and my calorie intake to eat more healthy options. As a result I am more active and my sleeping pattern has improved. Looking at the longer picture I would like to become self-employed working with computers which I enjoy and I will sign up to Who Dares Works (not yet) to help me achieve this goal.
